Situated on a secluded plot bordering mature woodland in Hertfordshire, this project significantly expands a private residence while radically improving its connection to the surrounding landscape.

To balance the original floor plan, a substantial new rear wing was added to establish formal architectural symmetry. The heart of the extension features a light-filled living, dining, and kitchen space arranged around a private internal courtyard. A sleek glazed corner opens seamlessly onto the stone patio, creating an uninterrupted flow into the garden and woodland beyond.

Located within a Conservation Area with strict aesthetic guidelines, the design carefully harmonises contemporary glass elements with traditional local character. Alongside the new wing, the original house underwent a deep thermal overhaul—integrating high-performance triple glazing and roof-mounted solar PV arrays to bring the entire estate up to rigorous modern energy standards.
