Project type

Extension & Refurbishment

The long term family home of our Clients had not been updated since the late 70s. The kitchen was a galley kitchen and poorly connected to the rest of the house. Additionally the property only had one bathroom serving the whole house and the energy bills to keep the house running were incredibly high.

The rear garden was very shallow and primiarly occupied by a large pool. A large rear extension was therefore not on the cards. Instead a shallow rear extension, just enough to create better flow within the property was proposed. In addition to knocking rooms together, this would create the space our clients were looking for. Additionally the rear extensions would conned up the existing pool house with the main house. The reurbishment of this under used space allowed for the creation of a steam and sauna room alongside an additional bathroom on the ground floor.

On the first floor, side extensions are added to create two additional bathrooms and walk in wardrobes to the main two bedrooms.

The whole property is wrapped in insulation and a new layer of brick. The windows are all replaced with high performance glazing and a new roof combined with solar slates is added. A large battery is housed in the garage, storing all the power generated by the solar panels, which generate over 50% of the buildings energy useage.

The building is carbon neutral in operation. Heat is supplied through an air source heat pump, which is powered by the battery. The proposal is expected to reduce running costs of the house by up to 80% with the use of smart energy tarrifs.
